A freight transit yard where cargo is transferred for transshipment has been put into operation by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) – Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) Railway on 1 July 2022 at the Vientiane South Station.  The freight yard promises to boost the PRC-Lao PDR railway’s logistics, improving the link between the railways of PRC-Lao PDR and Thailand.  

The Urban Management Platform of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) aims to tackle urban development policies and issues in Vientiane, such as land administration, investment in urban development, and revision of the transport master plan. The first meeting reviewed current land management practices. Government officials and JICA specialists attended, reported the Vientiane Times on 18 February 2022. 

The Singapore subsidiary of Kerry Logistics Network Limited will develop a dry port in the capital of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic with local company Sitthi Logistics.

The Lao People’s Democratic Republic can maximize the potential benefits from the Greater Mekong Subregion’s economic corridors through its national policies, capacities, and implementation arrangements.

Ministers from the governments of Cambodia, the People’s Republic of China, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam, met in Vientiane, Lao PDR on 11 December 2013 for the 19th Ministerial Conference of the Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Cooperation Program.

The leaders of the Greater Mekong Subregion issued a joint declaration, entitled "Enhancing Competitiveness through Greater Connectivity," at the 3rd GMS Summit in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic on 30-31 March 2008.
