A 10-year-plan of the Government of Cambodia will put off development of new hydropower dams on the Mekong River in 2020–2030. The Cambodian government will review a policy to seek energy from coal, natural gas, and solar, as well as energy imports, according to a Reuters report.  

Mr. Victor Jona, Director General of Energy at Cambodia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy, said the Government will follow recommendations of a study that recommended Cambodia to seek other sources of energy. The study for the government master plan suggested developing coal, LNG, imports from neighboring countries and solar energy.  

Cambodia received an additional energy boost from the Don Sahong Dam of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR) in the first quarter of this year. Cambodia and Lao PDR also signed an energy cooperation development agreement of 6,000 MW by 2030 in 2019.
