Operationalizing the Water-Food-Energy Nexus in the Context of Climate-smart Agriculture

The first webinar on the Water-Food-Energy (WFE) nexus was conducted on 24 March 2022 to introduce the Nexus concept and discuss the relevance of Nexus trade-offs – these define trade-offs between water, food, and energy security – for stakeholders in GMS countries. The latter confirmed that the Nexus is of high relevance for decision makers and planners in all GMS countries as traditional processes have occurred in sector silos often triggering substantial unintended cross-sector trade-offs.



ADB Holds Lecture on the Establishment and Early Years of the GMS Program

In commemoration of 30 years of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) program, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) hosted a "Lecture on Dividends of Peace: Lessons from the Establishment and Early Years of the GMS Program" on 25 October 2022. Former ADB Programs Department (West) Director General Noritada Morita shared his account of the history, evolution, and contributions of the GMS program.



50th Meeting of the Greater Mekong Subregion Tourism Working Group (TWG-50)

The Government of Viet Nam, with the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) and the Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office (MTCO) as co-organizer, hosted the 50th Meeting of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Tourism Working Group (TWG-50) on 11 October 2022 in Quang Nam, Viet Nam. The meeting was attended by senior and mid-level officials representing the National Tourism Organizations of the six GMS countries, MTCO, development partners and organizations including ASEAN Japan Centre (AJC), Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), and Asian Development Bank.

GMS Member Countries Look Forward to Setting the ‘Early Harvest’ Implementation of the CBTA Back on Track

GMS member countries are looking forward to setting the ‘Early Harvest’ Implementation of the Cross-Border Transport Facilitation Agreement (CBTA) back on track. This was emphasized by the GMS countries at the Subregional Transport Forum (STF-25) of the GMS Program held on 14 June 2022.
