PRC Opens Dongxing Border Gate for Thailand’s Fruits
The General Administration of Customs of the PRC (GACC) has opened the Dongxing border gate in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to facilitate fruit imports from Thailand on 29 April 2021. Thailand’s Department of Agriculture expects this to lead to a significant rise in the export of durian to the PRC.
To speed up fruit exports, Thailand’s Department of Agriculture is considering boosting personnel for issuing quality certificates. PRC requires Thai fruit imports to either come from farms that have been given good agriculture practices (GAC) certification or processed at facilities that have been given good manufacturing practices (GMP) certification. The GACC website lists 38,757 plantations and 1,587 food-processing facilities that can export fruits to the PRC.
The Strategy for Promoting Safe and Environment-Friendly Agro-Based Value Chains in the GMS and Siem Reap Action Plan, 2018–2022 focuses on expanding the markets for safe and environment-friendly agriculture products of GMS farmers and small and medium-sized agro-enterprises to include regional and global markets, such as ASEAN+3, including the PRC.
