2nd Meeting of the GMS Working Group on Health Cooperation (WGHC-2)

Officials from the health ministries of the six countries in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) met on 10 to 11 December 2018 in Yangon for the second meeting of the Working Group on Health Cooperation (WGHC-2). 

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) organized the meeting in coordination with the Ministry of Health and Sports of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Participants included representatives of development partners (International Organization for Migration, United States Agency for International Development, World Bank, World Health Organization, and World Organization for Animal Health-OIE) and Raks Thai Foundation, a civil society organization. 

The objectives of the meeting were to (i) review the progress of the draft GMS Health Cooperation Strategy (2019–2023), particularly preparations for its approval by health ministers; (ii) discuss how country-level health plans complement and support the strategy; (iii) review the GMS Regional Investment Framework 2022 and discuss and define potential project ideas in health; and (iv) agree on WGHC activities for 2019, which may be supported by the newly approved project, TA-9571-REG: Strengthening Regional Health Cooperation in the Greater Mekong Subregion.
